TVR questions???
There are two good resources for answering questions on TVRs and TVR related issues. First, the
official TVRCC discussion board
is available for all technical queries. If you are a member and have any questions, queries, suggestions or thoughts
then here is the place to do it! Members only
Alternatively, Pistonheads.com is a
fantastic resource for all TVR related questions and discussions. The discussion archives are an invaluable source
of information related to all things TVR!!

Here's a brief pen picture of our Regional Organiser - John Case
"I reside in Radcliffe on Trent, Nottinghamshire - I have been here for over 30
years - perhaps I will eventually get to know the place. I have two daughters, one
married, one single (god job I didn't have a son and named him Justin!!!!). I have been
blessed with a grandson, now aged 4 (he is a speed buff already). Hobbies include,
photography, gardening, borrowing money off mates and forgetting to pay them back, visiting
the West Coast of Ireland and telling lies when asked what my hobbies are!
I was a copper for 32 years, retiring in 98 - that gives you an indication of how old and
feeble I am - although I have to keep reminding myself that I am no longer 21. I now work
at The Nottingham Trent University.
I have always been interested in cars and about 150 years ago I went on an organised visit
to TVR at Blackpool, fell in love with 'the sound' and said to myself that that one day I
would own one.
Life has, to some degree, been kind to me, to date I have had two Chimaeras and a Cerbera.
In the autumn of 1997 I became a member of the TVRCC as I was looking to purchase a car, my
old man had died and left me some money. Joining the club gave me an insight into the
various models and in January 98 I bought a Chimaera. I still think it's the best all round
car TVR have ever produced. By the way you don't have to own a TVR to be a member of the
club!
I attended most monthly meetings. I simply saw myself as just another member, as indeed I
still am. Then in August 98 my life came to an abrupt and unexpected halt. My wife
suddenly passed away! Life completely changed. After a few months the region came to my
rescue by asking me to become their Regional Organiser. I said 'yes' thinking that it would
give me something to do in the evenings. Well it has virtually taken over my life - but I
thoroughly enjoy it.
My first commitment was to change the image of our region. When I first attended meetings
I had to put myself about to become accepted. I found the meetings rather 'cliquey' if you
get my drift? This was well emphasised by the publication of a letter in Sprint from someone
who had become a member, attended one of our meetings, and had walked away without saying
a word but more importantly, no one had made any approach to him. Admittedly he could have
said something himself, but I generally agreed with his comments.
Because of this I make a point of seeking out all new members and introducing them to the
happy band. This, I feel, helps to break down any perceived barriers - not everyone is as
gregarious as me!
As you will see from the Regional Joining
Form, we meet on the second Sunday in every month and each year our list of members
grows and grows. Some members come along very occasionally, some choose specific events and
others attend virtually every meeting.
Because members find other things to do during the summer (cricket - motor racing etc) I
find that our winter meetings are normally better attended. But when we have a specific
summer event or we hold a summer meeting with a theme e.g. a drive to a motor museum, or
an evening meal, we become inundated with growling engines. If you ever join one of our
convoys get at the back, that way you appreciate the benefits of driving though small
villages with a group of sports cars with very distinctive sounding engines. We have tried
mid-week evening meets but this attracts a totally different group so we regulars have
decided to maintain our Sunday gatherings.
We have a wide range of TVRs in the region, some members drive some really nice early
models whilst others come along with their current production models. As RO I receive a
lot of information from head office and other regions and at our meetings I inform those
present just what is happening. Comment has been expressed that this is much appreciated
as members from other regions say that at their local event they simply 'arrive and stay
in the car park kicking tyres'. I hasten to add this does not happen with the East Midlands
region!
Many of our members enjoy passing on advice to would be, or new, purchasers. We are also
pleased that our local main dealership is represented along with highly motivated and
enthusiastic independent sales and servicing agents such as James Agger Autosport and
Joospeed.
So why don't you come along, make yourself known and kick tyres?"
